If there should be anything I want to run away from in this Lagos, it would definitely be fast foods!๐
I know it is something that is imminent in our daily lives and we cannot skip it, but I as a person would try as much as possible to stay away or probably just have a favorite spot!
Hello beautiful human!
I hope this article meets you well and leaves you in a smiley and happy mood.
much love.xx
I am writing this blog post to let you know of some very terrible experiences I have had with fast foods in Lagos. I feel sad ( not literal sadness; ๐) as I take you on my experience on different fast foods.
MY SHAWARMA EXPERIENCE:
This happened sometimes in late March and it happened at my former residence area, so it has been quite a while.
PS: I am so glad my family isn’t in that area anymore, though it had its good sides but this new place is way better.
(roll my eyes).
It was a Thursday evening and as far back as I can remember, the sun was setting already and it was beginning to get dark. I hurried my pace because the night time isn’t favorable for women. (very sad but true).
I got to the Shawarma spot and I was happy his stand was still open. It is a Shawarma spot so of course, I met some other people there and I decided to wait my turn by sitting in front.
As I sat, I began to hear the customer and the shop owner exchange words. It rapidly escalated into a very hot and heated argument, leading to the exchange of words and insults.
Dear Reader, I sat and minded my business.
I had no idea a lot of time was wasted because I was so comfortable in my seat, not until I got a call from my Mom asking where I was. I immediately demanded the Shawarma guy pack mine and let me leave.
PS: #1,000 was chicken and two sausages.
#700 was beef and 1 sausage.
I paid and left.
I got home and was ready to have my Shawarma and orange juice which I bought on my way back home. I then turned on my Netflix to see the movie “Think like a Man too”.
I brought out my wrap, and the problem started.
The shawarma sauce already poured out completely and already soaked both the tissue and the foil paper. It was messy. Like everywhere stewwww.
As if that wasn’t enough, when I opened the foil paper to eat, the bread wasn’t properly cooked. It tasted very raw and burnt. I still pardoned that and tried to enjoy this coupled with the movie and juice.
Lo and behold,
It was the seven hundred naira wrap that was staring at me. I wan craze. wtf?!
I didn’t even know if this was a mistake or it was intentional. I was just pissed and annoyed.
After much anger expression, constant hissing, being irritated and talking to myself, I ate my shawarma with so much pain and annoyance. But I swore to myself, NEVER AGAIN. And also have my eyes on whatever anyone selling shawarma to me is mixing together.
Most of all, when I am going to buy something like that again, if any argument comes up, I pack my bags and I leave.
I didn’t go back to the spot though, because I hate embarrassment or actually drawing attention to myself or causing a scene. Although I know some of you are very violent.๐
very violent, infact.
THE ICE CREAM COMBO:
As far back as I can remember, this was my fault to a heightened extent but the attendant could have helped because I was a child and I knew nothing about how this worked.
I happened to be at the Palms Mall Lekki, in 2011( I can’t remember the exact month). I was there to see my elder sister who happened to work at her office branch there then, and spend some quality time together.
I was going to see this movie “Step Up All in” and while waiting, she paid for me to get an ice cream and went back to work.
Well, I was hyped and very happy.
I remember the attendant being a lady and she asked what flavor I wanted, I requested to have the regular plain ice cream. Obviously I had no idea how it worked and I didn’t want to embarrass myself.
Which I still did. I should have just stopped there.
She asked again, “what toppings would you like to add?”. That’s where I messed up. I can remember the smile on my face vividly when I said, “Strawberry”.
She put the ice cream under the machine so the strawberry could spread all over, but it still didn’t get on some part which turned out to be a good thing for me.
When I tasted what I ordered, I almost shed tears. It was trash. It was rubbish. It was nonsense. It was only the part that didn’t have strawberry on I could take. I literally wasted a large chunk of that ice cream and my sister’s money.
I looked at the attendant with so much disgust even though I requested it, before I walked away. If I am having ice cream again, just give it to me plain. Thank you!๐
THE PLACE (EATERY) PALAVA:
This one’s date memory is very blurry in my head, but I can still remember the turn out of the event very well.
I was to meet someone that very day and the meeting point was The Place Eatery. I got there before the other person and as to that, I had to wait.
I decided to order something while waiting because you cannot wait in there without ordering anything. I ordered Spaghetti and chicken and waited to get my order. I sat at my table and started eating, silently praying for my friend to come before I finish eating.
That happened..
My friend showed up but couldn’t get where I was, even with the phone calls and messages. I stood up to go get this person from just the door. Before I got back, my food had been cleared.
“Ahh, abi my eyes dey pain me ni?”๐
I was shocked at first. Taken aback literally. I started explaining to my g what happened and my friend basically said, “Let it go, we’ll buy another one”. I was in pain, but since I was offered another one.
I mean- why not?
I didn’t learn anything from any of these experiences for those of you thinking, “oh, so what’d you learn?”
I just look back at them now and laugh and know that I am not making the same mistakes again, especially that ice cream mistake.๐
Thank you for reading, my dearest.
Please feel free to share your own experiences in the comment section.๐
Read you next time.

From my deepest memories: MORENIKEJI A. ODEBIYI
